Offline Geological Mapping on Android: Your Field Data Secure Anywhere

Operate in remote survey frontiers completely without cellular signal. Collect outcrop stations, GNSS coordinates, macro photos, compass strikes/dips, and navigate over GeoTIFF and MBTiles rasters with guaranteed local persistence.

What really works without internet in the field?

Unlike fragile web wrappers that freeze when cellular networks vanish, RockGeo's native Android engine relies on an embedded SQLite/Room relational database with immediate on-device persistence.

Field Stations & GNSS

Capture pinpoint coordinates using your smartphone's internal GNSS sensor with real-time accuracy circles. Record station IDs, macroscopic lithology, weathering state, and outcrop notes.

Photographs & Spatial Media

Attach landscape outcrop photos, macro scale pictures, and quick voice memos directly to individual field stations, strictly separated from your phone's personal camera gallery.

Compass & Structural Planes

Measure planar strikes and dips (S0, S1, faults) and linear pitch/trend on the outcrop. Plot poles instantly onto equal-area Schmidt stereonets without network access.

Offline Base Maps

Load custom satellite GeoTIFFs, tiled MBTiles packages, geological Shapefiles, or GeoPDF maps. Navigate with full raster overlays even while in Airplane Mode.

2D Slope Stability Calculations

Run limit-equilibrium slope stability models (Bishop, Janbu, Spencer) directly on your device CPU for rapid, preliminary geotechnical screenings in the field.

Direct Local Vector Exports

Export field data directly to GeoJSON, Shapefile, CSV, or DXF on device flash storage or via USB-C cable, completely independent of cloud servers.

The golden rule of connectivity

Complete transparency on when you need internet and when you can work 100% disconnected.

First Google Sign-in Requirement: RockGeo requires internet connectivity exclusively during its initial launch to authenticate your Google profile and bind project ownership. Once logged in and your project is initialized, switch your phone to Airplane Mode and carry out field operations with total autonomy.

Connectivity breakdown by field task
Survey Task Status Technical Requirement
Initial login & user profile binding Requires Internet Google account on first startup
Point capture, photos & audio memos 100% Offline Device internal SQLite database
GeoTIFF and MBTiles raster rendering 100% Offline Pre-imported spatial files
Structural stereonet & Fisher statistics 100% Offline Local mathematical engine
GIS vector export (GeoJSON/SHP) 100% Offline Generated in device flash storage
RockGeo Cloud web synchronization Requires Internet Upon returning to Wi-Fi/cellular signal
