How to Continue Your Geological Fieldwork on Desktop with RockGeo Cloud

Tested version: Android 3.2.6 (54) • Web 3.0.0 Tier: Free (1 cloud project) / Pro (multiple projects) Browsers: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari Technical review: 14/09/2026

To continue your fieldwork on a computer, connect your smartphone to the internet (Wi-Fi or cellular network) upon returning from the field and synchronize your project with your Google account inside RockGeo Android. Next, visit the official web portal (rockgeoapp.com.br) in any modern desktop browser using the same Google account. Your field project—complete with outcrop points, lithologies, scaled photos, and structural attitudes—will load instantly with full CAD tools, cross-section builders, and desktop export options.

Hybrid architecture: local storage vs. cloud synchronization

RockGeo is designed with an offline-first philosophy. You never risk losing critical field data due to lack of cellular reception in remote canyons or dense forests:

  • On your phone in the field (100% offline): all waypoints, GNSS tracks, outcrop photographs, structural attitudes, and lithological notes are stored immediately in an encrypted SQLite database on the device's local memory.
  • At camp or base office (cloud synchronization): once you reconnect to Wi-Fi or cellular data, the app securely transmits updated records and media to RockGeo's encrypted cloud servers, associated with your authenticated Google account.
Notice on remote field camps: cloud synchronization requires active internet connectivity. While working in remote areas without signal, the mobile app operates with complete local autonomy. Do not attempt to force cloud sync without an active data connection.

Syncing the project in the RockGeo Android app

Upon returning from your field traverse to your field camp, hotel, or office with internet:

  1. Connect your smartphone to a stable Wi-Fi connection (strongly recommended for batch photo uploads).
  2. Open RockGeo on Android and open the side menu of your active project.
  3. Check the cloud status indicator: when green or showing Cloud Active, the app automatically begins synchronizing recent changes.
  4. For immediate manual sync, tap Sync Now. A progress bar will track the upload of stations, structural attitudes, and sample records.
Pro-tip: allow the photo sync queue to finish completely before force-closing the app or disconnecting from Wi-Fi.

Opening the RockGeo Web Portal on your computer

RockGeo Web does not require installing heavy desktop software, managing runtime dependencies, or configuring local database servers:

  1. On your desktop PC or laptop (Windows, macOS, or Linux), open your preferred web browser (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, or Apple Safari).
  2. Navigate to: https://rockgeoapp.com.br/.
  3. Click the Sign In with Google button in the upper navigation bar.
  4. Crucial: authenticate with the exact same Google account used on your Android device.
  5. The portal will load your synced cloud project list within seconds.

Inspecting stations, lithologies, and photos on a large display

Reviewing your field observations on a 24-inch or 27-inch monitor substantially accelerates geological data audit and interpretation:

  • Expansive geospatial view: examine all outcrop waypoints, GPS survey tracks, and geological boundaries superimposed on high-resolution satellite basemaps.
  • High-resolution photo gallery: inspect macro-structures, fossils, and hand-specimen textures in full resolution with mouse pan-and-zoom precision.
  • Unified attribute data table: filter and sort field stations by lithology, weathering degree, structural domain, or field geologist in seconds.
  • Desktop editing speed: refine lithological descriptions, add petrographic notes using a full keyboard, and attach post-survey lab assay results.

Desktop-first tools: geological CAD and 2D cross-sections

On the computer, RockGeo unlocks advanced capabilities tailored for technical engineering and exploration deliverables:

  1. Integrated Geological CAD: draw cross-section profile lines directly on the map canvas to extract topographic profiles automatically and construct subsurface geological contacts with precision drafting tools.
  2. 2D Cross-Section Profiles: convert digitized profiles into publication-ready cross-sections for exploration reports or slope stability evaluations.
  3. Multi-format Desktop Export: download GeoJSON or Shapefile packages for desktop GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS), DXF vectors for AutoCAD/MicroStation, or comprehensive PDF technical field reports.
